Memphis healthcare providers such as nurses, doctors, and dentists need CPR certification to work in contact with patients. Classes must be American Heart Association approved to be accepted by most employers and facilities. Nursing students need to become CPR certified before they can participate in clinicals.

Please enjoy this summary of Bacillus subtilis from a nursing student.

Bacillus subtilis is commonly found in water, air, decomposing plant residue, but mostly found in soil. B.subtilis is also referred to as hay bacillus, grass bacillus, and Bacillus globigii. This bacterium is one that produces endospores allowing it to be able to survive in extreme heat. B subtilis is not considered a pathogenic to humans, but it can produce a toxin called subtilisin that can cause an immune system response when exposed at high concentrations repeatedly. This normally creates issues in fermentation plants that use subtilisin.

B. subtilis can be found in a wide variety of detergents and cleaning products thus leading to the common allergic reaction from some people. This bacteria is is also used in dehairing and batting in the leather industry, desizing textiles, paper modification sizing. In Europe and The Middle East it is used as a broad spectrum antibiotic in alternative medicine. This bacterium can be found on parts of the skin and in the intestinal tract helping keep other pathogenic bacteria at bay by maintaining the body’s natural flora.

Bacillus subtilis  has proven to be a very useful and widely used bacterium and is even used in  quite a few laboratory research because of it’s genetic makeup allowing it to be manipulated fairly easy and the close similarities it has to E. coli.
