Hitting happy hour after work for a drink or two may help your heart health, according to the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism. Though there is a fine line between heart healthy and overdoing it.  Too much alcohol can be hazardous to health, increasing risk of heart diseases, depression, and cancer.

Overdoing anything can be dangerous even water. When a person drinks too much water in a short period of time, the kidney cannot flush it out fast enough and the blood becomes waterlogged – affecting the blood chemistry and preventing normal cellular processes. That’s how water cause death.  The human body is composed of fifty to sixty percent from water and it still dangerous if we consume too much of it. Likewise, alcohol is the same way.

Consuming alcohol in moderation is clinically and scientifically proven that it is good for human body.  People who consume alcohol in the right amount will have better health and live longer than people who do not consume alcohol or heavy drinkers. Alcohol decreases risk of heart attacks, strokes, and coronary artery diseases in particular, and improves health in general and longevity.  Each and every year, a million Americans lose their lives because of heart disease.  Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in the United States and most developed countries.  Alcohol affects the body by raising good cholesterol levels, lowering blood pressure and inhibits blood clots from forming.  For these reason, drinking alcohol in moderation helps to prevent in cardiovascular disease.  Therefore, one or two drinks are beneficial to heart health and health in general. For women, the level of moderate drinking is one to two drinks but men’s are two to four drinks.  It does not matter what type of alcohol people consume (wine, beer, or liquor).

Most people believe that it is better to not drinking alcohol when trying to lose weight, but that is a misunderstanding. We usually cut back on alcohol and any kind of fluid involved alcohol when we are on a strict diet. Medical researchers suggested if we add right amount of alcohol in our diet, it works a lot better than just a regular diet without alcohol.

Moderate and frequent drinkers have lower chance diagnose diabetes type 2, Alzheimer’s diseases, and Dementia. In addition to that, they also have less risk of developing Arthritis conditions; enlarge Prostate, Osteoporosis, Gallbladder Disease, and cancers. Cancers are such as kidney cancer, Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and thyroid cancer.

It does not stop right there, moderate drinking also has benefits to general health as well. For example, moderate drinkers’ body can resist the common colds.

Moderate drinkers have benefit of better health when compared to non-drinker or heavy drinkers. On the other hand, drinking too much is dangerous, especially if you binge-drink.  It may cause unwise drunken behavior or car accident that could cost someone’s life. It will also increase risk of breast cancer, liver problems and etc. Putting together the current evidence shows us that a glass or two of wine or whiskey a day could protect your health, but does not give us license to get hammered.
